Mise-en-Scène

Our most recent project is the 2023 Beach Museum of Art Gift Print. In this long-distance exchange, we explored the idea of arrangement. We made individual prints and objects and mailed them to each other, inspiring us to investigate, contemplate and experiment with staging the objects that we sent and received to one another. Three exchanges occurred and the number of objects grew, prompting each of us to rearrange and reconsider the scenes we created.

Our evolving arrangements were documented on Instagram and selected images of these arrangements are included in an accompanying booklet. In creating this work, we used a range of hand-pulled print processes including mokuhanga, lithography, letterpress, inkjet and relief printing.

This project was supported by the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS
